The relationship between De Gier | Stam and the magazine publisher, Mark Postema, has its origins in remarkable circumstances. After Postema acquired the musicians’ trade journal, Musicmaker, at the beginning of 2006, a search for a columnist “who knows everything about the legal aspects of the world of music”, led him to Lucasbolwerk in Utrecht. Since then Evert van Gelderen has been writing a bimonthly column entitled Wetboek van Poprecht [Pop Legal Code] with a great deal of enthusiasm, usually with the help of Maarten Heintges. Through it legal issues that are topical in the music and entertainment industries are examined in a tasteful but informative manner.

In the meantime Postema has not sat still either. In the summer of 2007 he launched a journal for bass players called De Bassist and shortly after that took over Revolver Magazine together with a partner. When this well-known magazine for “adult music fans” – which is now published monthly along with a free CD and has a circulation of no less than 30,000 – was acquired several matters arose, which made it necessary to seek sound legal advice. Naturally, it was logical for the publisher to head straight for Lucasbolwerk again without giving the matter a second thought but this time he came as a client.

Since then Evert van Gelderen has had the opportunity to demonstrate his expertise in the fields of intellectual property, media and entertainment. As a result, Postema has been able to focus entirely on his core business again – the production of fine music and musician magazines – and to ensure that his staff – including columnists such as Evert van Gelderen – submit their articles on time.
